POLISHED & STAINED

POLISHED CONCRETE

Nothing matches the timeless beauty and functionality of a polished concrete floor. Mechanically polished concrete floors can be finished from a low matte to a high gloss with exposures from creamy small particulates to salt and pepper - all the way to a full aggregate exposure. It simply depends on what your concrete is hiding under there.

Polished concrete floors are abrasion and scratch resistant. High gloss doesn’t mean slippery - polished concrete floors can give you both great traction and excellent slip resistance, even when wet. Polished concrete floors are excellent for heavy foot, equipment and vehicle traffic which is why you will find them not only where a beautiful finish is required but also a durable, long lasting and cost effective long term solution is needed. You’ll find them in industrial settings, sports venues, even some big box retailers.

The process starts with surface preparation by bringing with low grit diamond tooling. Cracks and faults in the slab can be grouted and repaired at this point. Keep in mind that the common fine cracks , faults and crazing of an older slab can actually contribute beautiful character to the final look of the project. Progressively higher grits of multiple types of tooling are used in sequence to produce an increasingly smoother surface and eventually, a brilliant shine. The concrete is densified to produce a much stronger surface. A chemical sealer is used to protect the final product.

The timeless, classic looks of polished concrete along with its unmatched durability make it an excellent choice across the board from residential to commercial shops, restaurants, municipal offices and venues as well as heavy industrial applications.

GRIND AND SEAL

A similar look to polished concrete can achieved with a more affordable grind and seal process. In this process, the concrete is prepared with diamond tooling, similar to the first stages of concrete polishing, but fewer steps are used and a topical sealer is used to produce the required level of gloss rather than achieving the gloss by mechanical polishing.

Concrete sealing is an excellent balance of cost effectiveness, low maintained a great looks.

STAINING

Staining is the process of using colored dyes to achieve a wide variety of effects and color treatments. This can be incorporated into either polishing or grind and seal projects to achieve everything form those wonderfully mottled saddle brown floors you’ve seen in everything from high end restaurants to luxury rustic lodges and homes to stately effects and borders found in museums, municipal buildings and hotels.
